A Lesson in Thoughtful Pessimism

Kind and Curious on Unsplash

"You will fail," said my professor in our last class before graduation; it pinched me, perhaps to others as well.

Here I am, dreaming big, driven by ambitions to change the world, and what my professor says to me is that "I will fail."

But he explained, as since the first day in school, I had a defined path, what comes after second grade, third grade…and so on to the university… Career-wise, the only decision so far I took was choosing my major, and to be brutally honest, it was more of an impulsive decision that turned out to be fitting (at least that's what I think)

However, now that I have graduated what now?

Take that corporate job, and along with numerous fellows, stark climbing the corporate ladder!
It turns out, Covid hit us and took my job in collateral! Oh goodness! Shall I cry now? Start over now? (Nah! I hated that job already; perhaps the pandemic was my excuse)
What do I do now?
Now the professor's words resonated with the state of my life; throughout my academic career, I had a defined goal, an assignment that I had to complete, and a project that I had to deliver. But professional life, on the contrary, doesn't govern you that much, neither does it rewards you that much readily! there's no final exam at the end of the semester…
